Phil Spencer Shares How Xbox Game Pass Differs From Netflix
Microsoft continues to promote Xbox Game Pass and day-one launches on the service, there is no doubt about it. But Phil Spencer, the CEO of Xbox, was recently questioned about whether he should be concerned about some of the issues the TV streaming sector has seen, such as subscription attrition and content bloat.
The Guardian posed this issue to Spencer, who responded by pointing out one distinct difference between Xbox Game Pass and Netflix. The Guardian travelled to Los Angeles for this interview due to Microsoft’s subsidised accommodations. Check out the statistics, he said. “The amount of games in Game Pass is significantly different than the number of original Netflix programmes.

“I estimate that we have played between 300 and 400 games. Even if there is still a lot, we don’t want to overwhelm you. When Game Pass quality falls short of expectations, I receive unfavourable feedback. However, they incur a marginal cost in trying something they would never have done before. How are our players feeling, how is subscriber growth, and are creators returning, if there is any indication at all?
Spencer neglected to emphasise another distinction between the two services: whereas Xbox Game Pass enables cloud-based game streaming (and an Ultimate subscription), local game downloads are more frequent. Netflix, on the other hand, focuses mostly on streaming TV shows and films, though you can download some of their material on devices like tablets.
Following the Xbox Games Showcase, which showcased his company’s future plans for the Xbox Series X|S, Game Pass, and PC, Spencer has been making the rounds over the past week. For instance, Spencer said that a new Xbox or a mid-generation refresh shouldn’t be anticipated any time soon. After Microsoft revealed a black Xbox Series S with a 1TB SSD, this happened.
The Xbox president also discussed Starfield’s financial viability despite its simultaneous Game Pass and Game Pass debuts. Spencer also wants you to quit interpreting his t-shirt selections so much.
The Microsoft model is not being used by other gaming businesses. Sony recently reaffirmed that it would not add new games, such as Spider-Man 2, to PS Plus.
