In Tron: Ares, Evan Peters will co-star with Jared Leto.
Leto will play the major role in Tron: Ares, directed by Joachim Rnning, who previously helmed Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. In reality, the script was written by Jesse Wigutow (Eragon). In August, production will begin.
The film is the official sequel to Steven Lisberger’s 1982 science fiction action film Tron, and it was directed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski. Starring Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, and Jeff Bridges (reprising his original starring role as Flynn), Tron: Legacy is set twenty years after the events of Tron. Over $400 million was made at the worldwide box office, but a planned sequel was scrapped, which director Joseph Kosinski put down to Disney’s purchase of Star Wars.
Leto’s replacement of Garrett Hedlund as Flynn’s child Sam was previously speculated to be the result of a role reversal. Instead, Leto will play the program’s symptom, Ares. According to Deadline, Peters’ role has not been established at this time.
Perhaps best known for his many roles in American Horror Story, Peters was recently honoured with the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Limited Series for his portrayal of Jeffrey Dahmer in Dahmer: Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story on Netflix. The actor also played Ralph Bohner in WandaVision, which airs on Disney Plus.
