Amazing as it may sound, enthusiasts have adapted the second Doom RPG, Doom 2 RPG, to PC 13 years after its first release.
Doom 2 RPG, originally released on November 23, 2009 for Java phones and then converted to iPhones on February 1, 2012, seemed headed for the same uncertain fate that awaits most mobile video games. Since Apple no longer encourages iOS app development and emulation of the platform is still in its infancy, many older mobile video games have quietly disappeared without any outcry from the gaming community.
The Doom RPG and the Wolfenstein RPG were both groundbreaking in their own genres, and so is Doom 2 RPG. They were established by John Carmack, the renowned creator of the Doom series, and his then-partner, Katherine Anna Kang, and were complete turn-based variations of the classic shooter game. There is nothing else quite like them, and they are an integral part of the design of classic dungeon spiders (Legend of Grimrock is a great semi-modern example of the genre). As long as these titles remained inaccessible, id Software fans were losing out.
