Diablo IV makes $666 million in 5 days to provide record-breaking launch
Diablo IV became the fastest-selling Blizzard video game ever with over $666 million in international sell-through revenues in just 5 days after its debut.
The game was released on PC and consoles on June 6, 2023, and Activision Blizzard called it a “record-setting launch.”
The firm claims that over 276 million hours have been spent on Diablo IV, but that only 163 players have completed the game’s maximum level in the challenging “perma-death” mode.
Blizzard Entertainment CEO Mike Ybarra has expressed his gratitude to the millions of players around the world who have gone headfirst into Diablo IV.
Diablo IV’s record-setting launch
Our outstanding teams came together to make Diablo IV, and the result is games that set the bar for their genre, establish instantly identifiable worlds, and leave indelible impressions on players. We appreciate the love, are pleased with our staff, and hope to keep Diablo ahead of the curve for years to come by incorporating player feedback.
Management changes contributed to tension and almost halted development of Diablo IV.
However, according to a recent article in Esquire, Blizzard has resolved the issue by rehiring the franchise’s original CEO, Rod Fergusson, who would supposedly keep the ship afloat and drive the crew ahead with “a strength of vision.”
