CDPR lays off Molasses Flood devs after “modifications” to Witcher spinoff
Members of The Molasses Flood, a studio creating a multiplayer video game for CD Projekt Red’s Witcher franchise, have actually been let go.
The video game, now known as Job Sirius, was recently revealed to be the subject of “specifying a brand-new structure” by the Polish developer’s subsidiary company.Kotaku was informed that 29 designers (out of 43, according to LinkedIn) had been eliminated as a result of the new change.
According to CDPR, who spoke to Kotaku, “Because the job has changed, so has the structure of the team handling it, generally on The Molasses Flood’s side.” The majority of those layoffs took place in the United States, while the final 8 were employed in Poland.
CDPR first acquired The Molasses Flood in 2021. As of right now, Siri will be the studio’s third overall video game (after Drake Hollow and The Flame in the Flood) and its very first under its parent company.
Cuts from The Molasses Flood
Following the announcement of a new structure, numerous designers felt the need to publicly announce their release from The Molasses Flood via Twitter. Although CDPR’s report on the internal reboot noted that the new structure used a “material part” of that initial premise, no explanation for the deletions was provided.
One of the positions disclosed by CDPR back in October was Job Sirius. The mission will introduce the Witcher franchise to multiplayer for the second time, and the designer said at the time that it would be a “ingenious take” with a wider audience in mind.
A remake of the first The Witcher, a new trilogy of video games set in the same universe, and an entirely new house are among the other projects CD Projekt Red is currently working on.
