EA Sports partners with Nike to bring NFT equipment to video games
It’s In The Game (But it does not exist)
Another week, another tedious tale of rich folks jumping on a bandwagon just as its wheels start to fall off. Electronic Arts has really disclosed that its EA Sports division is collaborating with multimillion dollar apparel company Nike in a new project that would add blockchain elements to the former’s series of well-known sports games.
Nike Virtual Studios and EA Sports will collaborate to introduce the sportswear manufacturer’s new NFT line, known as “Swoosh,” to the studio’s assortment of yearly releases. This, one would assume, applies to games like Madden, EA Sports PGA Tour, and EA Sports FC (formerly FIFA). No details on how the dubious blockchain technology will be incorporated into its computer game were released, but the publisher remembered that

Electronic Arts’ foray into blockchain technology comes as a number of video game companies attempt a second attempt to make the “Pretend Shit for Tonnes of Money” technology work for the video gaming community. This comes a full year after the NFT industry had a significant decline in Google searches, and at a time when numerous firms, including Ubisoft, Team17, Square Enix, and Sega, have been severely criticised for attempting to marry video games with the metaverse. Not to mention the complete failure of outlets like FTX and Meta’s overall money-wasting embarrassment.
