Important Role is Doing a Special Tears of the Kingdom Tabletop One-Shot Tonight

The unique will begin airing this evening, May 30, at 7 p.m. PT, on Critical Role’s Twitch and YouTube platforms. In addition to providing the voice of Ganondorf in Tears of the Kingdom, Important Role’s Matthew Mercer will serve as the game master for a cast that includes Liam O’Brien, Marisha Ray, Robbie Daymond, Emily Axford, and Omar Najam.

This evening’s video game, which is set in Hyrule, will present a basic plot scenario and basic characters who were influenced by Tears of the Kingdom.

Although it’s rare, we’re starting to see more instances of Nintendo partners giving their franchises’ trade secrets to outside companies. The Super Mario Bros. Film and Nintendo’s partnership with Universal for Super Nintendo World are the most notable examples of this, but there are also other, more subtle instances, such the main The Legend of Zelda escape space experience. The fact that Mercer had ties to both Critical Role and Tears of the Kingdom was undoubtedly taken into account when developing this one-shot tabletop RPG.

Dealing with Nintendo will add to Critical Role’s increasing list of accomplishments, which already includes a multiyear exclusive deal with Amazon Studios for projects like The Legend of Vox Machina and the impending Mighty Nein animated adaptation.
