The first trailer for the forthcoming horror thriller Five Nights at Freddy’s has begun to trickle out into the web.
The series’ creator, Scott Cawthon, claims that he began receiving emails concerning the suspected leaking “early in the day” on May 6 but was not at his desk at the time and so unable to investigate it further.
Cawthon said on the 5 Nights at Freddy’s subreddit (opens in new tab) that he “tried to ignore it and enjoy my day,” but that he was “really, really, discouraged.”

“I get that Blumhouse and Universal (and myself) have put in a lot of time and effort to create something incredibly intriguing that we can all be proud of sharing. The prospect of my initial impression being spoiled was disheartening, and I was nervous about returning home to find out what had happened in my absence.
But when he returned home, he “discovered a great deal of YouTube channels refusing to do videos on it, Twitter channels refusing to repost it, numerous members declining to enjoy it, and mediators taking a stand against enabling conversation on it.”
It was inspiring to watch the fans come together and push back against it, even if “it’s actually challenging, if not difficult, to prevent people from trying to ruin things for everybody else,” Cawthon said.
I think you’ll feel much better after viewing a finalised version that’s been tweaked and polished, complete with visual effects and the right noises.
The official beginning of filming for Five Nights at Freddy’s (opens in new tab) was in February.Cawthon has been brought on as manufacturer to keep a close watch on progress, and it is based on the same name as a series of video games.
On October 27 (opens in new tab), just in time for Halloween, the Five Nights at Freddy’s film will debut in theatres and on the streaming site Peacock.
